The 3000 series super heavy duty “Tapered Beam” chisel was conceived in response to the huge advancements being made in large tractor horsepower, 500+ horsepower, combined with the well recognized benefits of incorporating heavy Crumblers as part of the field unit.
Wilcox tillage products are known for their extra degree of durability. Maintaining this extra degree of durability and addressing the structural loads and stresses created by the chisel’s overall size, span between wheels, extreme distances between the outermost shanks and increased loading factor when combined with Crumblers required an entirely new design approach. Merely extending our current unit with existing tubing was not an option we would consider.
We chose an engineered fabricated tapered beam to to replace the standard structural tubing in order to address the increased spans and ever-increasing loads placed on these chisels. Whether it be a bridge or a modern excavator boom, this new design offers improved strength far beyond an already generous safety factor. The design of the tapered beam not only deals with the greater loads experienced in the center of the span, but spreads the load over the entire unit as well.
